So, you want to be platinum blonde. Do you know what is the upkeep for light blonde hair color?
If you never had light blonde or platinum blonde hair, don’t do it before you read the golden rules of blonde hair maintenance that you MUST NEVER break:
There are three factors you have to consider: Consistence, time and money.
Light blonde hair color upkeep rule #1:
Frequency of touch-ups: EVERY 3 to 5 weeks.
Once you are blonde, you must revisit your hair colorist regularly EVERY 3-5 weeks for a root touch-up. If for some reason, financial or otherwise, you cannot keep up with this rule, then platinum blonde hair is not for you.
WHAT IS THE REASON FOR IT?
Precise applications are the secret to even, beautiful blonde. It is easier to achieve consistent, light blonde hair color while the keratin in your hair is still soft. Regrowth that is longer than half an inch is much harder to lighten without getting a gold band. Wait any longer to touch-up your regrowth and you WILL get a hair band 99.9% of the time. What do we mean when we say you will get a hair band/gold band?
It means that after the lightening process, the regrowth will still be a different shade, that will not match the rest of the hair and thus creating a hair band or a line of demarcation, which is usually warmer in comparison to the rest of the hair. It is YOUR responsibility to be consistent with your touch-up appointments. If you are not, don’t blame the colorist.
Light blonde hair color upkeep rule #2:
Same hair salon, same hair colorist.
Be consistent with your hair salon and hair colorist. Once you have a blonde hair shade that works for you, you must go to the same hair salon and same hair colorist for touch-ups. Do not hop from place to place and colorist to colorist.
WHAT IS THE REASON FOR IT?
Not all hair salons use the same hair color brands and not all hair colorists apply color the same way.
Think of hand writing. We all learn to write the same way, but not one hand writing is the same. While all colorists know hair color principles, the way they proceed and apply color is very important. If you are happy with the colorist that made you blonde in the first place, keep him/her. For an even blonde hair color, you MUST use the same color brand that worked for you in the first place.
Light blonde hair color upkeep rule #3:
Haircare
Avoid pool water and use appropriate hair products. Platinum blond hair looks gorgeous when it looks healthy and shiny. Don’t be skimpy on shampoo, conditioner and hair treatments.
